With this project we had to select materials, study and experiment further. A whole mouth full. I decided to digitize and update my manifesto as I set myself the goal of gaining more adobe program knowledge. It frustrated me that I couldn't handle this yet and was eager to learn. My document is very organized and clear, something I had not yet achieved. I only go into the important materials and series, otherwise I won't be ready soon.
Collecting material I ended up with embroidery of my own drawing, made on the embroidery machine. The first embroidery consists of three different layers of fabric, different textures and multicolored slightly messy threads. The second was a neater version made by a different type of file, so you can see the difference between the two. The detailed illustration often appears in the manifesto. I wanted to see how lino print worked in combination with my drawing and I decided to laser the drawing onto the printed circuit board. The first print on paper was very uneven, streaky and not clear, it was just a matter of figuring out how or what. After a bit of testing, the print came out more even, but still somewhat fuzzy.
I was also very interested in making environmentally conscious paper. I started by soaking paper in water, put the paper with petals in the blender and tried different forms of pulp. The first versions had a lot of structure, were slightly thicker and had visible larger pieces. I decided to make a very fine pulp version. The result was an even, smooth, thin piece of paper, but very fragile. I also decided to make paper with old Kruidvat price tags. I work at Kruidvat and get very frustrated about how much paper is thrown away indiscriminately every time. I wanted to give these cards a new purpose and reuse them. I made a finer and not so fine version. Finally, I made paper with larger pieces. In the vein of reuse and being mindful, I used an old magazine about the pollution of the earth for an extra load. A very cool effect was created. Letters and colors are still clearly visible. In addition, I decided to print my linoprint on the homemade paper, but the paper was too thick and lumpy for this. The fine paper was too thin.
As the last finished series I tried different things with the laser. I lasered areas and lines on jeans to find the right settings. After this I engraved my own print on jeans, lasered a photo on a magazine photo page and then also on mirrors. You have to engrave mirrors through the back otherwise the laser will bounce. First I lasered the print of the man with cat. Then I engraved a picture of my friends on a mirror to create a funny situation when we would look in the mirror. Then a mirror with a detailed print, but this mirror broke due to too much heat in one place. Cracks arose. Then also the print of several faces. The drawing had too much detail and broke. Finally, I lasered a glass frame to see if that would work and what the exact effect was. Finally, my collages made for the manifesto.
